FAQs
If you’re considering acupuncture treatment, you may have questions about how it works, what to expect, and whether it’s the right fit for your health goals. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about acupuncture at Parksville Wellness Collective. Our clinic proudly serves clients from Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanaimo, and surrounding Vancouver Island communities seeking natural and holistic care.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points along pathways in the body that influence circulation, nerve activity, and energy flow. These points help regulate the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and support the body’s ability to heal naturally.
Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and much finer than the needles used for injections. Most people feel little to no discomfort when the needles are inserted. Many clients find acupuncture treatments relaxing and calming.
What conditions can acupuncture help treat?
Acupuncture is commonly used to support a variety of health concerns including chronic pain, headaches, stress and anxiety, sleep issues, digestive concerns, hormonal imbalance, and injury recovery. Treatments focus on restoring balance and supporting the body's natural healing processes.
How long does an acupuncture treatment take?
Most acupuncture treatments last between 45 and 60 minutes. Your first visit may take slightly longer to allow time for a consultation and a personalized treatment plan.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
The number of treatments varies depending on the condition being addressed and how long symptoms have been present. Some people experience improvement after a few treatments, while others may benefit from a series of sessions over several weeks.
What should I wear to an acupuncture appointment?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended. Many acupuncture points are located on the arms, legs, and back, so clothing that allows easy access to these areas is helpful.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Many extended health insurance plans cover acupuncture treatments. Parksville Wellness Collective offers direct billing with many insurance providers, making it easier to use your benefits. Coverage may vary depending on your individual plan.
Can acupuncture help with stress and anxiety?
Acupuncture is commonly used to help regulate the nervous system and promote relaxation. Many clients report reduced stress levels, improved sleep, and a greater sense of overall wellbeing after treatment.
Can acupuncture be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Acupuncture can complement other wellness treatments such as massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and other holistic therapies. Many clients benefit from a collaborative approach to their health.
What does acupuncture feel like?
Most people feel very little when the needles are inserted. Some may experience a mild tingling, warmth, or pressure at certain points. Many clients relax so deeply during treatment that they fall asleep.
